What CAIF is doing in the USA

Child Abuse Intervention Fund provides a 24-hour a day hotline offering intervention assistance, counseling, legal referrals and support group referral.

CAIF provides regular financial support for the Garden of Angels, a cemetery within a cemetery located at Desert Lawn Cemetery in Calimesa, California.

It is a peaceful garden created in 1996 to honor and provide a final resting place for abandoned or unclaimed children. They are children who have been found in trashcans, dumpsters, along roadways or beaches, or who have been abandoned by their parents after death. There are 77 tiny bodies laid to rest within the garden walls.

The Safe Arms for Newborns outreach and educational program has been created as a part of the Garden of Angels to help prevent the tragedy of newborn abandonment. Garden of Angels spearheaded the drive for SB 1368, the Newborn Abandonment Prevention Law, which allows parents of a newborn infant to legally surrender their baby anonymously and without fear of prosecution to a hospital emergency room or other designated agency. Since this law took effect in January 2001, 140 live infants have been safely surrendered and placed into foster or adoptive homes. 47 of 50 states have adoped similar legislation.

An educational campaign for Safe Arms for Newborns has been launched which includes a toll-free help line, public service announcements and printed advertisements. A video designed to reach out to young people as they discuss life issues and teen pregnancy in the classroom has also been developed. In 2006 35 educational meetings were held for Safe Arms in high schools, churches, community clinics and child welfare conferences.

Child Abuse Intervention Fund has teamed up with Care Net, a national pro-life ministry, to help provide billboards advertising their toll-free help line across the U.S and Canada. Statistics show that 90 out of 100 women would have preferred a positive alternative to abortion if only they knew a realistic one was available at their time of need.
