CAIF in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Child Abuse Intervention Fund has supported an orphanage and clinic in Intshuem, Congo for many years. In the tragic setting of civil war, limited food supply and AIDS, we have maintained this orphanage, school, church and medical clinic since the 1960’s. During that time hundreds of children who otherwise would have died have been rescued, educated, and brought up to be valuable citizens in the Congo.

The orphanage presently has 45 resident children and another 27 that live elsewhere but receive daily meals and medical aid. Much of the abuse here comes from the “survival of the fittest” mentality that prevails. the children are not strong enough to survive on their own against adults, soldiers and terrorists. We continue to help not only the orphan children but also others from the surrounding villages who are in desperate need of clothing, food and medical attention.
